Better on Paper

Everything I see eventually becomes a poem

Angel of my dreams

Its iridescence tickled my skin

The sparkles spun a web,

The sheer weight dug into my back.

I crookedly stood tall

I could not fall, not now, nor crack,

Otherworldly beauty, held by me,

Me.

Each step I took, I elongated my limbs,

Caressed and pinched by the jewels,

But my mind stayed clear.

Eyes were dotted ahead and behind me,

My every move clicked into oblivion.

I dared to glance down at my body,

Interwoven brilliance lay on me,

I pulled myself away from its trance,

And instead gazed ahead.

The flashing lights danced with me,

Each pose I struck, an invitation.

Squeals of strangers crowded my ears,

My chest untightened as the end neared,

My name was all I heard,

A shudder escaped as the throbbing pain in my shoulders succumbed.

I smiled.

I had become the angel of their dreams.
