Better on Paper

Everything I see eventually becomes a poem

a girl at a bar

I swished and swirled, watching you closely. You cracked your neck like it hurt. I gulped audibly as you slid more drinks toward me. I nearly choked on the last one.

So this round, I bided my time, carefully playing with my lime. You squinted at me, confused. I was no longer on your tight leash.

I kept staring at my glass dyed with crimson, playfully kissing the rim of my cup, teasing you, working you up.

From the corner of my eye, red danced on your tongue. You’d bitten it, perhaps imagining me in something you shouldn’t.

My eyes wandered to yours. You winced, lips parted, sore from wanting. I took my final glass and walked to the door.

You stopped me, reaching once more. I pulled you toward me. Scarlet lingered on my lips as I walked away.
