The corners of my mouth slyly crept up as I gazed at the view ahead—
crystal blue horizon, wickedly taunting me with her vastness.
The hairs on my arm raised in serene alertness;
the scorching breeze caressed me with her prickly touch.
I turned to wind up the window, but suddenly the vehicle came to a halt.
I jerked out of my seat in surprise,
the roof of the car smacking against me, protecting me from what lay outside—
a world beyond my grasp and reach,
somewhere new, where no one knew me or what I had done.
A welcome so cruel, yet not as ghoul
as I probably deserve.
